In addition to conserving endangered species, zoos often play a key role in wildlife rehabilitation. Many zoos partner with wildlife rescue organizations to care for injured, orphaned, or displaced animals. These animals, often the victims of habitat destruction, illegal hunting, or natural disasters, receive medical treatment and rehabilitation at zoo facilities. The ultimate goal is to release these animals back into the wild, but for those that cannot be reintroduced, zoos provide a permanent, safe home.
For instance, injured birds of prey, such as eagles or owls, are often brought to zoos for rehabilitation. Zookeepers and veterinarians work together to ensure these animals regain their strength and health. In some cases, if the animal cannot survive in the wild, they remain at the zoo as ambassadors for their species, helping educate visitors about the importance of wildlife conservation.
